Mangal Pandey was a sepoy in the 34th Regiment of the Bengal Native Infantry (BNI) of the English East India Company. He is widely known in India as one of its first freedom fighters. The Indian government has issued an Indian Postage Stamp to commemorate him as a distinguished freedom fighter. Beyond that his life and actions have also been adapted to the silver screen.
Mangal Pandey, at the age of 22 joined the British East India Company as a soldier in the 34th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry. He was a true freedom fighter who gave a spark to the First War of Indian Independence. The British termed it as Sepoy Mutiny 1857 as it was a mass revolt of Indian soldiers in the British Army.
Mangal Pandey attacked his officers based on a rumor that cartridge he was using contained flesh of cow and pork. He is a hero whereas Indira Gandhi was killed by Satwant Singh and Beyant Singh for the same reason and they are termed as biggest ghadars(traitors). Indira was really involved in massacre of Sikh babies, children, pilgrims but the officers attacked by Mangal Pandey were just ordinary officers, not the policy makers. Truth is one, we can not apply different yard sticks to test different persons. To declare somone a freedom fighter, killing of white or black does not matter, so there is no justification that he had attacked British or the whites. Please offer your comments. What machinary was available for sikhs for Sikhs to address their complaints. Did not Indira Gandhi(not Mrs Gandhi, only a lunatic will call her mrs, she was a criminal) and his army knew that on the day of festival(gurpurbs) the sikhs visit their gurdwaras in thousands[ Bhindrawala and his men were there for years, why did she picked that particular day, ignorance is not an excuse]. What reply can come from Indira for piling up deadbodies in rubbish tips and cremating them in mass. Even deadbodies of enemy soldiers and their belongings are returned to other countries with respect and also robbing the belongings of pilgrims, using tanks, airforce, poison gas and adding poison in pool in darbar Sahib. What answer can Indira give for erasing the proofs. Satwant and Beyant are real martyrs. Mangal Pandey is not linked with any freedom movement of India, maximum if someone believes your twisted version makes him a Hindu martyr.
